Robotics comes from Meccano this year with the first self-build multi-media WiFi spy robot.

Spykee the first spy robot to be controlled by WiFi link is due for release late in 2008 and anyone with an eye for the latest gadgets and gizmos can marvel at this futuristic creation. Spyke Robot can move, see and listen, take pictures, create videos, act as an MP3 player or a telephone enabling free calls via the internet.

The robot can be controlled from anywhere in the world, either via WiFi or the internet, allowing surveillance while the owner is away from home. There will be three models to build Robot, Scorpion and Lunar vehicle plus of course your own design. The good thing is that it is compatible with all Meccano parts.

The Meccano funky car is as it sounds, funky! It is designed to be built by younger hands and has 160 flexible & strong plastic pieces instead of metal for safety. The screws & bolts are included along with the instructions to build 5 different configurations of this cool and colourful vehicle including a helicopter and plane.

Toys for Christmas for the Meccano enthusiast could include the 40 model set that comes with a plastic case to store the parts and a 6V motor for elaborate movements.

Meccano has every fan knows is a model construction kit that was invented in 1901 in England by Frank Hornby. Metal strips, plates, wheels, axles and gears with nuts and bolts to connect the pieces are used in the building of mechanical devices and working models.

The story of Meccano goes back to 1898 when in a little workshop in Liverpool, England Frank Hornby put together a nuts and bolts system for his children’s enjoyment. Frank Hornby patented his first nuts and bolts system in 1901 under the name Mechanics Made Easy and in 1907 Meccano made its first appearance.
