Toys are universally loved by children but some toys are more popular with boys than girls. Usually action toys, racing cars, movie toys, figures and vehicles are a favourite with the boys. Blockbuster films like Star Wars, Transformers, Batman, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek have a greater influence with boys.

Toys that tie in with these movies always prove popular. Other box office hits like Terminator, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and G.I Joe will also have an exciting line up of their own character based toys and games.

Kids can recreate their favourite scenes and battles with great role-play outfits and costumes for example X-Men fans can put the Electronic Battle Claw on. The summer sensation G-Force from Disney was an action film involving guinea pigs as secret agents. Boys love adventure so they’ll be delighted with the action figures, playsets and new range of remote control vehicles being released. Girls enjoyed the film too and will have their eye on the giant plush toys of the famous guinea pigs.

There is a whole world of adventure, secret agents, and speedy vehicles plus scary creatures that the little chaps will love to frighten the girls with. RC toys are great for boys like the remote control Tyrannosaurus Rex and the RC Tarantula which are sure to cause a scream or two.

Boys may spend many hours playing with the latest movie and action toy but there are plenty of other interesting things that will appeal to them too. The popular talent TV shows have seen a rise in the sale of musical instruments and toys giving way to a generation of wannabe rock stars.

Arts and Crafts and construction toys settle things down and encourage a different form of play. Boys can be inspired by creation from an early age with favourites like LEGO, Meccano and Playmobil. Building different objects allows youngsters to use their imagination and at the same time developing motor skills.

Gadgets, gaming and electronic toys are more advanced than ever as the digital era takes over. Children are being introduced to electronic wizardry at an early age with VTech and Leapfrog leading the way. Although modern technology has produced some amazing toys good old fashioned toys and games still maintain their appeal.

Wooden toys and traditional games and puzzles have stood the test of time with new releases being introduced that are also environmentally friendly. Toys that offer good play value as well as good green credentials will get the thumbs up with parents too.

Finding the best toys for boys is not about buying what everyone else is getting, it requires a bit of thought. Knowing what a child enjoys the most whether it’s outdoor play, building, action, reading, painting or dressing up for roleplay adventures is a good start and getting it right is so rewarding.
